Strong Performances at BC Champs!

A trio of Vernon girls swept the podium in the 1,500-metre race at the B.C. Athletics Championships Jamboree last weekend at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford.

Sasha Schoch, a member of the Vernon AAA Track & Field Club, claimed gold in the 16-17 Girls 1,500-m, finishing in four minutes, 37.53 seconds. Schoch also struck silver in the 3,000-m (10.06.91).

Tessni Carruthers was runner-up in the 1,500-m (4:43.97), and uncovered bronze in the 3,000-m (10:19.58). She added a fourth-place showing in the 800-m with 2:22.30.

Sarah Bailey rounded out the all-Vernon podium finish, placing third in 4:47.17. Bailey secured silver in the 800-m with of 2:15.30.

Competing in the 14-15 Girls division, Ella Brown earned seventh-place finishes in both the 100-m (13.33 seconds) and 300-m (43.66).

Brown is competing for Zone 2 Thompson-Okanagan in the same two events, plus the 4×100-m relay, at the B.C. Summer Games this week in Langley.

Vernon AAA’s Chris Watson is also competing in Langley in the 800-m.

Shawna Noble was eighth in both the 100-m (17.65) and 300-m (49.63) hurdles.

Running in the 18-19 men’s division, Pepijn Ramakers was ninth in the 400-m (54.08), and 15th in the 800-m (2:08.01).

The Vernon AAA girls have qualified for the 2010 Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships that will take place Aug. 6-8 at the Terry Fox Athletic Complex in Ottawa.
